Brian E. Boyd, Sr. - Principal & Founder

With over 20 years of IT experience, Brian lives and breathes IT.  Prior to the creation of BGS, Brian was the Chief Information Officer at Ginsburg Development Companies, the Northeast’s premier developer of luxury residential and mixed-use communities. He was responsible for evaluating and implementing strategies and technology to continuously improve the information systems supporting all aspects of the company’s businesses.  Boyd also directed a team that guided the enhancement of GDC’s Web site, increasing the amount of information available to potential buyers and contributing to a near tripling in the number of daily visitors to 1,300 people. Prior to joining GDC, Boyd served as Director of Information Systems for iN DEMAND Networks, the world’s leading [...]provider of video-on-demand and original HD programming. While at iN DEMAND, Brian was responsible for several key initiatives, including Business Intelligence and optimizing data communications between cable television providers and iN DEMAND.

Before this, Boyd served as Senior Engagement Manager in the professional services group of Snickelways Inc., a New York City-based eCommerce solutions firm, where he managed high visibility projects focused on B2B e-solutions. He joined Snickelways after working at Williams Communications in Tulsa, Okla., where he was Program Director for IP Services and was responsible for Williams’ suite of Internet Protocol products. Boyd was also an advisor to the Oklahoma House of Representatives on the state of new technologies. Boyd holds a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Oral Roberts University and continues to serve on its Telecommunications Advisory Board. His diverse list of previous employers includes HALO Technologies, SpaceCom Systems, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Global Crossing.  Boyd, his wife and two children reside in lower Manhattan. 

Peter Schamel – Consulting Services Director

Schamel provides BGS with 25+ years’ experience in industries including Digital Media, Education, Nonprofits, Pharmaceuticals & Specialty Chemicals, and domains including eCommerce, business strategy & operations, technology, marketing, finance, startup operations, corporate law & HR.

Prior to joining BGS, Schamel served as Chief Administrative Officer for Educational Directories Unlimited (EDU), the online publishing division of EducationDynamics.com, where he was responsible for operational, technology, marketing and creative strategy, and oversaw the implementation of best practices drawn from the large corporate, entrepreneurial and consulting environments in his background.

Schamel held positions as CIO for both iN DEMAND Networks, leading provider of pay-TV, VOD and original HD content to US cable TV systems, and Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear, one of the fastest-growing retail chains in the nation. Schamel holds an MBA in Marketing, as well as Bachelors and Masters degrees in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, a Bachelors in Economics from Claremont McKenna College, and a Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. His diverse list of previous employers also includes 3M, MetLife, JP Morgan, the NBA, mazescape.com, the Minnesota and Santa Fe Opera companies, and Metrius, BearingPoint’s in-house boutique branding, user experience and e-business strategy consultancy.

Irwin Kroot - Senior Consultant

Irwin B. Kroot is a senior consultant with BoydGroup Solutions (www.boydgroupsolutions.com). He has nearly 30 years’ experience as a technology professional, working with a broad array of private, public, and not-for-profit organizations. He provides specialized consultative expertise in the areas of systems and technology strategy, technology management, business process analysis and improvement, technology procurement, and technology training.

Before joining BGS, Kroot was the Chief Information Officer for the New York City Department of Education, the nation’s largest school system. His responsibilities included development and maintenance of the technology infrastructure and the major administrative applications used to manage the school system. His major accomplishments in that role included management of several website redesigns (serving more than one million visitors per week) and a major web domain change, implementation of the NYC 311 information line as a comprehensive source of information via telephony and web for the school system, development of an IT strategic plan and a revamp of IT governance , initiation of a full IT security management plan, restructuring of the IT budget, and management of a several hundred million dollar IT capital plan.

Kroot has also previously worked as a Senior Consultant in the management consulting practices of PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM, focusing on the development of technology solutions for Human Capital Management in Fortune 500 companies. He also served as the Director of Human Resources Systems at

Columbia

University in the City of New York, and the Director of the

Technology

Center for the New York City Department of Personnel.

Kroot has a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany, and has completed his doctoral coursework at SUNY Stony Brook. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Kaleidoscope Theatre Company, a non-profit theater in New York City, and was a participant in the Coro Foundation’s Leadership New York program.
